Friday Ramblings

You guys, six month olds are my jam!
This girl is making me smile all the day long. She is just my favorite little side kick always chilling on my hip and always wearing that adorable grin on her face.

This week her personality has really started to blossom. She does this little fake cough and thinks it's so funny when you do it back to her or say, "Oh no, listen to that cough!" She'll get this big old beaming smile on her face so pleased with herself that she's caught your attention and then continue to fake cough while giggling to herself over and over again.

Those sparkle eyes and chunky thighs make my world go round.

Emmerson had her very first soccer practice today. It's finally her time to shine on the field and I could not be more excited for her. She surprised me out there. She was all about it. Charging up and down the field, kicking the ball all around while many of her little teammates sat on the sidelines, extra timid for their first practice. Em is always surprising me with her boldness. I just love her fierce little attitude. Nothing like her momma, and I dig it!

I survived a semi-back to work week this week. I was at a training from 8 - 3:30 Monday-Wednesday, took Thursday off and then went back to my school site for the first time today for a few hours. It wasn't horrible being away from home. I did feel like the house was in total neglect by the time Wednesday rolled around and I was quickly reminded how hard it is to juggle meal planning, cleaning, exercising, and work, all while simultaneously being present with the husband and kids. I am not sure if I will ever discover the true secret to balancing it all well but I am learning to find contentment in the chaos.

In other news...Dustin and I are both taking a break from social media. Like, I completely deleted instagram off of my phone. I know that sounds drastic, but remember my recent post about my convictions regarding spending money frivolously and justifying my wants as needs? After I wrote that post, I spent some time looking back in my prayer journal, and I can't even count how many times social media was a part of my prayers in the last year. I have been intermittently asking God to help me not to stare at my phone in front of my children, or to not make scrolling IG more of a priority than engaging with Dustin at the end of a long day TOO MANY TIMES. And I realized in that very moment that God's done His part in full. Every conviction was there, what was missing was my obedience.

So it's gone. For now. And I like it. It's been freeing and I have especially loved the sacred time of conversation with Dustin. It feels like a legit date every night without our phones in our faces. I feel so much more valued by him wanting to talk with me or watch a show with me rather than us posting up on opposite couches staring at what everyone else has done that day. It's sort of a beautiful thing.

There are definitely things that I miss. I love connecting with my extended family and the encouragement I gain from relationships with some awesome women in my life. But ultimately, not at the cost of my relationship with my own family. So for now I'm walking in obedience with this and I am grateful for it.

What else, what else...
My brother in law is getting married to an amazing girl that has felt like a sister in law for a long time already. They have been together as long as Dustin and I have... but they are just now officially becoming Mr. and Mrs. The wedding is "cocktail attire" and it's in San Francisco in the evening and I can't figure out for the life of me what to wear. Dustin is in the wedding and has a navy suit. Donovan is in the wedding and has navy slacks. and a white button up. Emmerson is the flower girl and has the sweetest little blush and cream colored dress and I ordered a cute dress for Taylor, too.
Meanwhile, I have ordered two dresses that I thought might work for myself and they were both a no. Returned.
Then, I actually went out and tried some dresses on the other night and still a no.
I really don't want to spend a ton on a new fancy dress because goodness knows it'll probably be the only time I'll wear it.
So I am thinking I may just wear something I already have? Maybe I will post some pics on here and you can put my mind at ease by telling me that something I already have will be juuuuust fine.
Okay? Fair warning. You can look forward to that one... I know you're clinging to the edge of your seat.

I kid. I kid.

Okay, off to bed. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
