Summer in Sacramento (and Tahoe)

I hesitated posting these pictures of our trip up North because most of the pictures I took on our vacation were on my phone. Shortly after we returned home, I spilled water on my phone at the beach and it completely fried. I still haven't been able to recover the photos. So sad! But at least I have a few from my camera to share.
The day after school got out for the summer, we headed up North to Grammie's house. The first day there was spent with Dustin's best childhood friends Will and J. I love this picture of them with their boys.
Here we all are together.
On Sunday, it was Grammie's official retirement recognition the Children's Director at her church. Pastor Craig called her up on stage, and Donovan and Emmerson wanted to follow.
Then lots of the children from the church came up to celebrate her retirement with her. It was very sweet. We enjoyed a nice lunch together with family after church.
The next day we decided to drive up to Tahoe for a relaxing get-away.
We stayed at a friend's cabin. The same one we had stayed at last summer. It is a bit of a drive outside of South Lake, but I love how rural and gorgeous the scenery is around the cabin. Each morning we'd take walks with the family while it was still nice and cool out.
This running water borders all of the cabins up and down the street. The sound is heavenly.

The kids loved to collect lots of wildflowers for us.

As it started to warm up, we'd pack the car and drive to Zephyr Cove for some nice time at the Lake.

The water was icy cold but the sun is so warm that you can't help but jump in for a second or two to cool off. It always blows my mind that for as warm as it is while we're up there in the summer, the mountain tops are still full of snow.

We wore Molls out. She loves swimming in the lake.
When we'd had enough of the beach for the day, we'd head back to the cabin to relax. Then we'd shower and get dressed for dinner in South Lake. We kept ourselves busy walking around, site seeing, seeing Finding Dory at the movie theater, or going out for ice cream. It was a wonderful trip!

This is where I lost most of my photos. The rest of our vacation was literally spent being LAZY in the best way. We spent almost every day swimming in Uncle Dave's pool with friends and our cousin Xander. We didn't return to Grammie's until close to dinner time. We had an awesome barbecue with friends and family on the 4th of July, which concluded with a great fireworks show in the street out front with all of the neighbors. Donovan loved being old enough to help with the big boys this year.

I did at least grab my camera to capture this sweet surprise from Uncle Darek and Aunt Erika.

The kids are so excited to be a part of their wedding celebration next summer.
It was another successful trip to Grammie's. We were sad to see it come to an end. It was the perfect start to our summer vacation. Now we can look forward to our return in November.
